On my journey, exploring new ways to paint, I landed on a planet, where drawings are completely missed. I started with some rough shapes of hills, with no idea, where this may end up. But then a city formed out of it, and the only thing I had to do was to detail it.
This is the result of an experiment to paint without any drawing before, with only one colour, so that only shadows and lights form the landscape and the figures. It was fun.
But before any complaints will occur, because of the poor people in that city having only one colour, I´ll fill in more colours later. See then the Polychrome City.
Thank you very much. It´s a very creative new method, which requires to see objects and figures in a cloud-like 2-dimensional structure. It´s like the psychologic tests in the movies, where people have to say what they can see in inkstains. You only have to make that structure come out clearer. This is so cool to do. It´s like therapy, I bet.
Thanks. Now that you mention it, it really looks like a computer game. I love that. The work progress of that new method is a lot more quicker than the old way I did the Iron Pred-thing. I needed nearly three days for the "Iron Pred", and only four hours for the "Monochrome City" O_o.
Haha, yeah, but still the IronPred has more color and detail to it, while this one is a lot "cooler" and has a bunch more depth...
Both unique.
But its funny:
I have experimented with a pretty similar method to the one you used here when i was trying out some coloring! Laying in the flat colors, and on top of that paint only in grayscales (Layers set o "Multiply" and "Screen" blending modes) to create shadows and highlights and the overall shading.

Across the globe, 27 million men, women, and children live in some form of slavery. That is more people at this moment than in all the centuries of the Atlantic Slave Trade. Something must be done. This contest serves two purposes: Raising awareness about human trafficking and raising funds for the Not For Sale organization.
Open to all mediums. Deadline is March 10, 2010 @ 11:59pm PST.
